Bluefield Partners LLP (“Bluefield”), established in 2009, is one of the fastest growing investment groups focused on solar PV in Europe. It is supported by Bluefield Services Ltd (“BSL”), its Bristol based asset management company. In 2013, Bluefield listed the Bluefield Solar Income Fund (BSIF.L) on the London Stock Exchange, the, the first, and highest performing, of the publicly traded solar PV focused investment companies. BSIF has over £600m of gross assets and 400MWp of UK based solar PV farms. The Bluefield team has been involved in over £1.5 billion of solar PV funds and/or transactions in both the UK and Europe since 2008, including £750m in the UK since 2011.

Bluefield is majority owned and managed by its three founding partners. The partners are supported by a dedicated and highly experienced team of investment, legal and finance executives.

The Role

Portfolio Value Protection:

Reporting to the responsible Partner, the candidate will work within Bluefield with a specific focus on the investment portfolio:

  • Working closely with Bluefield’s sister Asset Management business (Bluefield Services), maintain knowledge of the portfolio and asset issues, milestones and timetables in order to support reporting and monitoring;
  • Act as senior point of contact and centre of knowledge for all portfolio reporting to the Partnership including developing and reporting portfolio management KPIs;
  • Oversee the financial models required for portfolio budgeting, valuation and bank compliance to provide leading portfolio input for Board reporting, financial reports, valuation and bank compliance;
  • Develop relationship with key contractor counterparts for all investments to manage commercial and contractual issues working closely with Bluefield’s engineering team;
  • Support take on of new investments into portfolio and oversee the closing and post-closing actions

Portfolio Value Enhancement and Investment:

The candidate will take leading responsibility within the firm for identifying and implementing opportunities to add value to the portfolio both through new investment activities and through identifying value opportunities for existing assets. These may include:

  • PPA strategy, negotiation/renegotiation including direct wire and sleeving/commercial;
  • Operational cost renegotiation to reap benefits of economies of scale;
  • Optimization strategy;
  • Storage, flexible generation and other optimisation of grid utilisation;
  • Primary investment in post-subsidy projects and/or direct wire/industrial opportunities;
  • Financing and refinancing opportunities.

1) Wider business support: As part of a small experienced group of investment and finance professionals the candidate will be required to contribute widely to ongoing growth of the business through activities such as conference presentations; investor meetings and presentations; market analysis and research; fund documentation among others.

Skills/Experiences required:

  • 5+ years experience in UK renewables either in EPC contractor commercial/sales or with renewable energy portfolio oversight within investment business or bank
  • Experience in renewable energy portfolio or asset management and preferably in UK solar including reporting and budgeting/financial modelling
  • Experience working with, or within, an EPC contractor and strong familiarity with construction (EPC) and operation (O&M) contracts from commercial perspective
  • Experience in bank/project financing
  • Understanding of UK energy market and in particular emerging developments in PPA, storage and grid markets
  • Strong financial and analytical ability
  • Understanding of renewable energy regulation
  • Strong negotiation skills and confidence in communication and presentation
  • Team player able to collaborate and influence across multidisciplinary team at all levels of seniority
  • Obtained at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in your chosen degree discipline
  • Demonstrated track record of superior academic and work performance; demonstrated commitment to outstanding results
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage rapidly changing assignments in a team environment
